Herrera was born October 8th, 1966 in the Chachapoyas-Amazons region of Peru. He
spontaneously decided to become an artist at an early age, no doubt due to the influence of
relatives who were artists and musicians and his frequent visits to museums. A graduate of the
Escuela Nacional Superior de Bellas Artes del Perú, his main influence is Western art, particularly
paintings created during the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Recent tendencies such as
hyperrealism and surrealism also influence his work.

Herrera cites his dreams, childhood memories, nature, and photographs as infinite sources of
inspiration. He mainly paints using oil on canvas, but also utilizes gouche and graphite. Herrera
defines his style as magical realism, and chooses to work in this genre due to the countless
possibilities for expression or interpretation that reality provides. The artist’s work is sold in
Japan, the United States, Costa Rica and Spain. Herrera is single and currently resides in Peru.
