Alberto Mancini
1960 -
The Emily Dickinson Suite
About 9 years ago, Alberto was drawn to the work of Emily Dickinson, quite by accident. He found a volume of her
collected poetry in an airport bookstore. He was immediately enthralled with her work and studied the poems over a
period of years in preparation for the paintings he began in late 2006. He was interested in the way that Dickinson saw
everything in her world as subject for poetry - from the affection she felt for her Susan, to the feeling of the cold floor in
the early morning, to the sense of the cosmos contained in a simple flower. Dickinson worked with the contrast between
simplicity and cosmic complexity.
