Ted Prince has been an architect much of his life and an artist even longer.  However, it was not until
recently that he focused on art full time and realized acrylics and watercolors were not only enjoyable and
natural, but also allowed him to continue to express the creativity he came to enjoy in architecture.

“For many years I was afraid of watercolors and acrylics because I did not understand color.  Once I studied
other artists and learned about mixing colors, the rest came unexpectedly easy.”  Prince read books and
magazines for several years and went to endless art shows and galleries before starting to “throw paint”.  “I
paint things in nature.  I love to be outside in God’s beauty and creations.  I do a lot of photography, and
search out my subjects and locations.  My up front preparation usually exceeds the painting time greatly.  But
then again, the whole idea for me is to have a reason to get outside.  Sometimes I paint plen air, but the
problems with changing light and clouds are somewhat difficult, not to mention adverse weather and terrain.”

Prince is a realistic painter, painting landscapes, oceanscapes, sailboats, birds, flowers, and sunsets.  He paints
mostly in The Smokey Mountains, Florida, and Costa Rica, but continues to travel elsewhere in search of
beauty and subjects. “I like to work with acrylics and watercolors both.  They are very different, but have
similar qualities as well.  I bounce back and forth between them, exploring their possibilities and limitations.  I
may explore oils at some point as well - whatever it takes for me to capture the scenes and subjects and to
instill a feeling or mood into each painting, every time it is viewed.  I paint to please myself, knowing that there
are others who will also be pleased when they sit and study a painting, and can feel a sense of being there at
that moment.”
